“The answer, gents, is Logan Canyon. It’s not upwind, but it’s close and it’s in the mountains. We follow them up the canyon and see where they go.”

“You sure about that?” Duke asked.

Aaron was already thinking ahead.

“They could be going west on Highway 30, but that’s just a gentle drive over the hills, ending at Riverside and the freeway. Not likely. No, they’re going up Logan Canyon somewhere. So yeah, I’m sure—I’d bet my life on it.

“We need to split up, do a two-car stakeout, like in the movies. We station one car on Main near the Fourth North turn onto Highway 89. The other car waits near the mouth of the canyon—right by the college campus—and waits for them to pass, then follows them up the canyon. The first car turns off and the second car picks them up. They won’t question a car following them up the canyon. They could be going to Garden City. This is beautiful.”

Aaron was ecstatic.

“We don’t have a second car,” Jordan said straight-faced.

That brought Aaron up short, but not for long. His grin came back and he looked at Duke, leaned over the table and said conspiratorially, just above a whisper.

“We steal a car. Take it from one of the parking lots on campus, near the mouth of the canyon. You can do that, can’t you Duke?”

“Harder on the newer cars, but I’m sure we can find one I can move easy enough.” A grin spread across Duke’s face. Aaron had one to match—he knew this was the stuff Duke loved.
